Playing Shakespeare - An interactive workshop
Demystify Shakespeare’s language with this encouraging interactive workshop. This workshop can be used with students of English or Theatre and works well in either the classroom or in the rehearsal hall.
Your students will learn. . .
- The “hows” and “whys” of Iambic Pentameter.
- How to look for the paired words and repeated sounds that will make Shakespeare's poetry understandable and powerful.
- How to find and use the hidden stage directions for actors and readers that Shakespeare worked into his plays.
- Good verse work is not about finding the right answers as much as it is about finding the right questions.
Two Cent Scenes - Students direct professional actors!
Bring Professional Actors into your classroom. This workshop offers a dynamic Shakespeare experience by literally bringing scenes to life for your students. Local professional actors will prepare short scenes from popular plays within the curriculum. Your students are then given the chance to put their two cents in by directing the actors through an exploration of the scene and characters.
Your students will. . .
- Have the opportunity to direct professional actors in the scenes that they are studying.
- Learn that there is no one right way to imagine a scene or a character.
- Discover that the plays give them the power to be co-creators with Shakespeare.
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival offers workshops for adults in businesses as continuing education in public speaking and project direction. Participants have the opportunity to explore an artist's methods of examining problems, revelaing meaning, and renewing motivation. Not only are these strategies beneficial to artists, they also have applications in business. Participants access creative choice in an immediate way and have a chance to "play" within their thoughts and choices. The result is imagination, vision, and invention that will inspire executives and invigorate their work. The Festival's Education staff will work with you create a workshop that addresses your specific goals.
